Partial line-up for the Montreal International Reggae Festival’s special 14th edition

Montreal June 7, 2017 – On the forthcoming weekend of August 18, 19 and 20th, the Montreal International Reggae Festival (MIRF) presents its 14th edition, once again under the banner United Against Violence and featuring once again international artists from all genres.

Here’s an overview of MIRF 2017’s partial line-up for the three days

Friday, August 18

Most definitely one of Montreal’s most popular and beloved performers, Sanchez will be performing his countless Lovers Rock, Dancehall and Gospel hits on the opening night. Also headlining, one of the oldest and most respected reggae groups created in 1968 by brothers Ian and Roger Lewis, Inner Circle!

Saturday, August 19

Always considered as the most urban-music oriented night of the Festival, many of the most popular Dancehall and Soca chart-topping artists have been confirmed for our Saturday presentation…

* A soca segment starring Ultimate Rejects! MX Prime and his most energetic crew won the Road March title for Trinidad & Tobago Carnival 2017 with Full Extreme, a true 80’s and 90’s style anthem. Also on hand will be Ricky T from St Lucia, discovered in 2007 with his super hit Pressure Boom. He is recognized as St Lucia’s most popular soca artist of all times with 17 Carnival victory titles! To complete this segment, Linky First, Jamaica’s first Soca artist to reach the International Soca Monarch competition finals in 2017 with his hit Rock And Come In.

On the Dancehall front, MIRF 2017 proudly welcomes the Main Street Crew (Red Rat, General Degree, Buccaneer, Hawkeye and Goofy), bringing to the stage all of their 90’s hits! Then, it’s startime with Ding Dong, Jamaica’s most popular dancer since Bogle turned singer with 2005’s Bad Man Forward Bad Man Pull Up. Konshens, returning to Montreal for the second time since 2012 has kept scoring hit after hit ever since, with titles like Bruk Off Yuh Back, Gal Dem Suga, Best NaNa with Shenseea or his most recent Turn Me On.

Also starring for the first time in Montreal, the Sound system DJ turned pop-singer rising star Charly Black just recently reached the 10 million mark plays on Spotify with hits such as Gyal You a Party Animal, Whine & Kotch, Girlfriend, Bike Back and Hoist & Wine. Also, Instagram’s latest sensation, Jamaican comedian Majah Hype will be here to introduce all his famous characters such as Grampa James and Di Rass.

Sunday, August 20

Another all-time MIRF favourite, Etana will be passing by Montreal in the wake of her Reggae Forever North American Tour to feature her most recent compositions (from 2014’s album Rise, considered that year’s best album) and all of her greatest hits. Also for the first time since 2006, the top female singer Tanya Stephens will showcase her repertoire.

For old-school Dancehall fans, Lieutenant Stitchie’s late 80’s classics like Natty Dread, Obeah Wedding or Wear Yuh Size are just unforgettable. Stitchie will be singing all of them in his set, along with his more recent reggae and gospel releases.

R City’s Thomas Brothers became famous as writers of hits for Rihanna, Nicki Minaj, R. Kelly, Chris Brown, Justin Bieber and Future, just to name a few. Ever since the release of their solo album What Dreams Are Made Of and its single Locked Away featuring Adam Levine in 2015, their brand of Caribbean pop has taken the planet by storm! They are currently riding high on the success of their most recent collaboration with Tarrus Riley, Crazy Love.
