D'PROFESSOR
BIOGRAPHY
Dj Allan was born in Trinidad and Tobago and left Santa
Cruz at the age of 16 to immigrate to Montreal. He got into the world of music
early by working for King Chow. He started behind the scenes but quickly made
his mark as a talented DJ. After King Chow left for the Sates, Allan joined Love
Express and eventually went solo under the name of D’Professor. These veterans
helped nourish and stir his love and gift for the mixing of soca and music.
Always in pursuit of cutting edge music and equipment, D’Professor was the first
DJ to start mixing on CD’s. From as far back as the “Soca Village days”,
although criticized by the DJ community he persevered with the Cd’s and as time
passed the rest followed. He is known to be a leader in the industry not a
follower.
D’Professor was the resident DJ for CKUT, on West Indian Rhythms, where he
worked along side Stretch and Anna for 12 years. He played for both the Soca and
Reggae hours but his specialty was the Soca hour where he aspired to bring to
all listeners the latest in Soca, Calypso, and Chutney.
D’Professor is one of the key DJ’s for the Trinidad and Tobago Day in the Park
which is a task he holds dear. He has volunteered his talent to this event since
its tender beginnings and it has now flourished into a don’t miss event in
Montreal.
He is viewed as one of the Top DJ’s in Montreal and has been playing since the
age of 18. His unique style and innovative skills has earned him the respect of
the DJ community and made him one of the most sought after DJ in North America.
Other than his local performances in Montreal he has traveled to various places
such as the States, Toronto, Ottawa, and Trinidad, to play along side some of
the top Soca DJ’s in the field.
You can be 16 or 60, no matter the age once D’Professor is playing then you are
guaranteed a good time. He would bring you as far back in time as you please or
bring you the most up to date. Swinging with the crowd and satisfying their
needs is what he does best. He is a party starter and would keep you rocking
till morning.
Presently he is the resident DJ at Visions along side Tuff on Fridays where they
bring you the latest in RnB, Hip hop, Reggae and Soca. He may be considered a
Soca DJ but do not let that fool you, once it’s music it is there to be played
and he is known for the creative ways of incorporating all forms of music and
translating it into a new regime.
Music is his life, his source, and inspiration.

SOCA KIDD
BIOGRAPHY
Doing it for the love of Soca
There is a reason why Eloi Thomas gets up very early to start a soca show on
CKUT every other Saturday morning.
“I love this music and I want to do all I can to promote it. This show, Soca
Sessions is just one avenue to do so,” says the young Lachine resident who has
been involved in the music in one way or the other since the mid 90s.
His introduction to calypso and soca came at birth. As the son of Montreal
calypso icon, the late Lord Paul, and Lady Paul, another
respected
participant in the artform, Eloi grew up hearing it all day, all night at home.
It didn’t take long for the music to take hold of him. By the time he was a
teenager he established himself as one of the top soca/calypso DJs in Montreal,
Soca Kid, playing in parties and even an extended stint on the popular West
Indian Riddims Show on CKUT 90.3 FM with Howard Stretch Carr.
“As a soca lover, I stayed with the music even during the years when it wasn’t
popular and I’m still pushing it.”
For the Soca Sessions show, which he co-hosts with CONTACT columnist Junior
Milton Primus, Eloi has become the driving force, making sure that he is up at
one o’clock in the morning and going out to share his soca tunes with late night
and early morning listeners.
He says he’s prepared to do all he can to get the music the recognition it so
richly deserves.
He remembers the days when as a youth he worked as a sound and equipment guy
with the popular Trinidad soca band Taxi.
All those were learning experiences. Now it’s time to take it to the next level.
Eloi plans to continue the show, but he is also in the process of forming a soca
band, which he says will be another vehicle to push calypso and soca forward.
Big up!
